Merriweather Post Pavilion
I’ve put off writing about Animal Collective for two years, but with the release of their newest album, Merriweather Post Pavilion, I have broken down, and decided to give in.
Outside of the Indi Music world, Animal Collective are virtual unknowns. The band is, originally, from my birth town, Baltimore, Maryland. In fact, their newest release Merriweather Post Pavilion is named after one of the coolest outdoor concert venues in Columbia, Maryland (a suburb of Baltimore, where I spent my high school years).
I first came across Animal Collective with their 2005 release, Feels, which made me anticipate 2007′s Strawberry Jam. However, with their newest release (and 9th album), they have honed their creative, abstract music and have created some of the most catchy and beautiful pop songs I have ever heard. (And the album art isn’t half bad either)
