ahhh…ebay

January 29th, 2008 by Bryan

I love eBay, it’s America’s Garage sale.  It’s also pretty funny the stuff you can find on there.  Such as…

Run you car on water for $250

Or

Become Invisible!

ummm…sure.

Bonnaroo Book

January 12th, 2008 by Bryan

Flaming Lips at Bonnaroo 2003

So I’ve started re-editing my 5 years of photos from Bonnaroo. In 2003 I borrowed work’s digital camera, which it’s longest lens was a 70mm, really not great for some shows. But it actually worked fairly well for the most part. My second camera was my old Pentax film camera with a longer lens and I decided to only use black and white film. I really have not done much with the film I shot, cept print about 4 or 5 images in my dark back when I lived in Columbus. I’ve started going through the 10-12 rolls I shot and I’m finding some nice stuff.

The Flaming Lips was a show that actually made me a fan of them. I only shot them in B&W cause it was a late night show, I didn’t want to risk work’s camera while under certain “circumstances” (Paul knows this story). I wish I shot them in color, though I did get a chance last year, so I’m happy. But I’m really happy with some shots I got of them.

I have a few more images I’ve scanned and there will be more coming. Take a look at what I have so far, let me know what you think. Maybe I’ll start a contest like Woody and maybe give a book away, unlike Woody..cheap bastard. Eh, he does have to save for the wedding after all ;)

By the way, does anyone have photos of me at Bonnaroo? I need one for a bio.

Scout II

January 11th, 2008 by Bryan

Ok, I found how to get good shots of Scout. Take her and Lucy on a 2 mile walk. Let Scout sleep for about 10 minutes, get everything ready and throw her on the table.

She’s a little sleepy

Maybe a little grumpy

Ok, better

She’s getting bigger. We got her at 6 weeks old and she was around 6 pounds, now at 8 weeks she’s 9 pounds.

Polyphonic Spree has a new video for their song”We Crawl” it’s directed by indie film maker, Dante Harper. Pretty nice, shows the real life of the band members and some meaning behind the song.  Oh ya, you can enter to win one of their robes as well.

Photo Rights 102

January 9th, 2008 by Bryan

OK, Don’t believe me about protecting your rights of your content? I spoke about it a few months ago with my Blogging Photo Rights 101. Now I want to talk about how you should protect the content you have. Yesterday’s post about being paid fair is only half of it. You need to make sure no one, and even more so, big media is making money off of your hard work. This includes music, photos, painting, your blog. It’s yours and you should stand up for your (copy)rights.

The Washington Post today has an article about companies such as Fox, Virgin Mobile, and Microsoft using people’s work and not wanting to pay for it. Actually just stealing it and not even telling them. In the article Niall Kennedy is quoted as saying “This is a company that goes after copyright violators with the assumption of guilty until proven innocent.” Damn right, so why let someone like that steal from you?

So take little time and read the article
Hey, Isn’t That . . . by Monica Hess

It’s well worth it.

Pay the Writer

January 8th, 2008 by Bryan

OK, this video has been goign around quite a few photographer forums and I also wanted to post it here. Pretty much, you should expect to not get paid for your work. if your a writer, photographer, musician, whatever…it’s your work and a “byline” or the thrill of seeing your work published is not enough. Hell, with how easy and free it is to make a blog, forum, or self-help magazine it shouldn’t be a thrill anymore anyway.

Featured Photography

January 8th, 2008 by Bryan

flaminglips.jpg

About 2 months ago I joined a new stock photo agency called PhotoShelter. They just launched in November and I’m fairly excited about it. One big thing, they pay a 70/30 split on photos instead of the standard 50/50 split most stock places give. I was contacted by one of their Photo Editors in December to tell me they where showing some of their entertainment photography to clients, such as Blender Mag, and where including some
of my music photos. This month they have made me one of their featured photographers. Hopefully someone will notice and it will mean some sales for me. I’m really not expecting much in the first year as they still need to make more contacts with photo buyers. But it seems to be a step in the right direction.
Here’s my micro site with them…

On another note, I’ve started work on my Bonnaroo photo book. Hope to have something to show in the next few weeks.

5 dangerous things you should let your kids do

January 4th, 2008 by Bryan

Great talk. I don’t have kids yet, but at some point I will and I’ll probably follow similar standards, much to the dismay of their grandparents. I took chances when I was a kid, explored outdoors, took things apart, didn’t sit in front of a TV or video game all a day, and most of all thought about things. I didn’t let media force feed what I “should” be thinking. My point, let kids be kids and don’t put so many limits on them for their safety that they can’t use their minds…..and watch the video.
