You’re So Bossy
Since I was in the first row for this show at ComFest I thought I would post it up. I’m over on the left, just off camera. Though you can see Dawn over there occasionally.

OK, don’t have $ to hear new music, ya, we’re all there. Hey, try freelancing and your wife is a grad student and you buy your first house and you try to be up on all the new music. Well, enter Spinner. Their “Full CD Listening Party” is made for people like me and you. Right now they have 5 or 6 albums I’d like to at least gie a listen to before I would want to buy. Right now they have, that I want to listen to: Smashing Pumpkins, Interpol, Spoon, Bad Religion, Nick Drake, and They Might Be Giants.

Interpol’s third full length, Our Love to Admire, is scheduled to be released tomorrow (July 10, 2007). Any true Interpol fan will have heard most of these songs since the album was leaked last week. I have listened to it a few times and it is nothing short of amazing.
This time around, the band recorded the album in New York City, at Electric Lady Studios, a studio originally designed by the late, great Jimi Hendrix. The band also recorded with a keyboardist and you can definitely hear the texture of the songs.
The highlights are The Heinrich Maneuver, which is their current single. It’s a snarling kiss-off to an ex-lover who is now residing on the west coast.
Another standout is Mammoth, a rocker that could easily have fit on their first album, Turn on the Bright Lights.
Spinner is currently streaming the entire album.
Here is the video for The Heinrich Maneuver.

So apparently James Hetfield of Metallica got detained at London’s Luton Airport on Thursday because of his “Taliban-like beard.” Wow, I think it’s time to shave.

I know, I know, who’s “Dr. Dog?” Well, I didn’t know either until I got a text early on Sat. at Bonnaroo asking me to shoot them, and when I say early, I mean about 11:50AM (they started at 12:00). Since I had showered and was just going to you know, REST, I went and shot them anyway. I didn’t rest much the whole weekend.
Anyway, the few songs I did catch where pretty good, so it was worth the trip over to see them and I kept meaning to check their music since I’ve gotton back. Well, this is an easy enough (and free) way. They are slowly….and I do mean slowly (one a week) letting you hear them free on their site. You can hear two songs now, fairly good. Better live.
Anyway, here’s their site.
Oh and completely off topic and just for fun:

Ok, I really didn’t know much about her until about a week or two before Bonnaroo. But, if you haven’t heard of Lily Allen, you will. She put on a hell of a show at Bonnaroo (click for my photos) and she seems to keep being compared to Amy Winehouse as the rising stars coming out of Britain right now. She’s not giving into the media created feud, as she stated, “Enough about me supposedly hating Amy … its boring and untrue.”
She is damn funny though, both in her music and poking fun at Amy Winehouse and the media in this British SNL style show…..

Video premiere from Spinner. Pretty cool, kinda reminds me of some parties at the old BLD in in Columbus.

OK, changing things up a little. I have to say I’m addicted to another artist, well kind of. Since Feb of 06′ DJ Steve Boyett has been producing Pod Runner, an uptempo, around an hour mix almost every week Podcast for your iPod. It’s really great workout music. I use it for my wokouts and runs with my iPod Nano. Best of all it’s all free.
Oh, as a side note, while I really don’t like Nike products, I love the Nike + iPod that tracks your runs and provides feedback while you run. It only works on a Nano though, and you really shouldn’t run with a normal iPod as the vibration is bad for the hard drive. Nano’s use flash memory, alot like a card for a camera, no moving parts, no heat, much more durable and takes less energy to run, thats why Nanos have better battery life.
Anyway, each Podrunner Podcast is set a steady tempo for the duration of the hour long mix. Each one even states the BPM (beats per minute) so you can choose how fast of music you want to work out to. I really beast anything out there for workout music.
