The Hair the TV the Baby and the Band

July 28th, 2007 by Paul

Imperial Teen

Imperial Teen. A band I’ve seen live 3 or 4 times, loved their records, but I, somehow, always manage to forget their existence. My rediscovering of them usually involves rifling through my pretty large, unorganized CD collection and I’ll stumble upon one of their 3 previous CD’s and go “Oh yeah!” Imperial Teen.

For those not in the know. Imperial Teen is an Indie Pop band from San Francisco and consists of Roddy Bottom, Will Schwartz, Lynn Truell and Jone Stebbins. (Roddy, of course, was in the band Faith No More). Their music reminds me of The Pixies (at least their first two albums) but all four of the band members sing, and their harmonies alone are pretty darn tootin’. The way they create so much within a song by their voices alone always impressed me.

Today, as I was cruising my regular music blogs, I was so pleased to hear a brand spankin’ new Imperial Teen song. With a little click of my mouse, I discovered that they are releasing a new album entitled The Hair the TV the Baby and the Band

The Hair the TV the Baby and the Band

which is scheduled for release on August 21, 2007.

Yet another musical surprise for 2007.

Making of Smalthof Wedding Invites

July 26th, 2007 by Bryan

This is version 1 on the wedding invite video. The next version will include stills I shot with my other camera, more edits and different music, well it will be longer then so I’ll have to select different music. This music is not quite what I wanted but it will work for this one. Can anyone guess the music in this one, artist and song?

Norah Jones covering Gram Parsons

July 25th, 2007 by Bryan

Really great, I love Norah Jones and her doing a Gram Parsons song is really special. I think the biggest artist I missed by not going to the very first Bonnaroo would have to be Norah. Maybe she’ll come back one of these years. She could travel around and play with everybody, kinda like Warren Haynes, Herbie Hancock, Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool, and many others have done.

Work from home

July 23rd, 2007 by Bryan

“It’s encouraging to think that something good will come out of rising gas prices.”

OK, not everyone is able to work from home, but according to this CNN article, more people might start.  The boss at National Recreation and Park Association has told his staff to work from home one day or work 4 longer days and take the 5th off.  Good for them, I have to say.  I’d personally take the extra day off if I where still working in an office, but that’s me.

I think it’s great people are starting to become more flexible with working hours and staff.  I work from home myself at this time, except when I’m on a shoot.  It’s great, I have a studio/office in the basement, and work on my photo research there. Ya, there are bad things, I don’t see very many people, but the good out weigh them, not driving being a big one, I probably save $150 a month not driving the Jeep to and from work.  I can also spend more time working on the house, which is a big plus and almost part of my job right now as well.  We are not sure how long we are going to stay here and flipping the house is almost a part time job in itself.

So, hopefully more businesses will recognize that most work can be done at home or with flexible hours, saving gas, making employees happier and maybe keeping better talent within companies.

Netflix addiction

July 19th, 2007 by Bryan

OK, Gretchen and I have been on Netflix for about a month now.  I have to say it’s much better then it was when we where on it a few years ago.  Why?  Community.  They got it, finally a company a little ahead of the curve.  Basically you can connect with your friends who are on Netflix and see what they have rated high or low and what they have rented, pretty cool.  So anyone else on Netflix, join up with us bitch!  We are under Gretchen’s account (gretchen@NOSPAMflyingtype.com)  Just take out the NOSPAM part, you know cause spam sucks.

$14 a month is so much better then the $9 for 2 movies from Blockbuster, who I hate anyway.  Their customer service blows and they have crap for movies sometimes.  It partially makes up for not having cable, we are catching up on Battlestar Galactica and Weeds.

OK, new direction for the band. I like it, darker, rocking a little more, I think they will bring in more fans with the new sound. Can’t wait for the album “Under the Blacklight” due out Aug 20. I’ve also included a tracklisting for the new album:

  1. “Silver Lining”
  2. “Close Call”
  3. The Moneymaker” (extended version of the video below!)
