I’ve noticed that I have pretty much stopped buying CDs. The most recent was Robert Randolph & The Family Band, ‘Colorblind’, pretty much because I preordered it and wanted the t-shirt. most of the music I buy now is through iTunes, I just don’t want the cases laying around, the only time I actually listen to a CD is in my Jeep, and I really only want to keep copies in there in case someone decides to go through my unlocked and/or completely open Jeep. Hard drive space has gotten so cheap these days, it’s hard not to just have a really big drive and throw everything on there.
But that’s me, how do you get your music?
iTunes?
Limewire?
CDs?
download it without paying?

Buy music? I have never heard of such a thing.
Don’t people know about the library?
Joking aside,
I still buy those antiques called CD’s (though you really should see my huge 8-track collection). I do like to hold the CD artwork in my hand, and read along to the lyrics while listening to an anticipated CD for the first time. Call it old fashion.
Damn libraries in Columbus, Raleigh has crap for them, no CDs or DVDs. As for artwork (AND Photography!) in the albums I have to agree, though many albums are starting to include PDF versions of the booklets with their CDs in iTunes, so you can still see them, actually larger and see the lyrics, ect.
I have to agree with Paul, I love the booklet that comes with cds, and that’s how I’m still getting my music. If and when I finally get an IPod I’m sure that will change, but I think there’ll always be a few artists that I’ll have to buy the cd.
I only buy CDs of bands that I love and want to fully support. If I kind of like a song, I either get excited when it’s on the radio, or I buy it on ITunes. Since I bought my IPod, I have embraced technology and download songs I like. I will buy Rush’s new CD because they are my favorite band, but all I will do is download the songs to my computer and add them to my IPod. Maybe I shuold get it at the library. As for the album art and lyrics, I can check the internet if I really want it.
There is a part of me that still purchases cds for the same reason as other folks have said, the cover and the lyrics. I just bought some big band cds, by the way. When I purchase a cd, I have to admit of becoming excited and ripping the plastic off just to look at the little, round, shiny thing and the paperwork. Over the years though, I download from various places (Limewire, Beatport, etc) but I too get most of my music supply from the library (I work there as well). I then burn my own compilations. I have a Jukebox made by Creative and it stores up to 40gb so I listen to music that way as well. I’ve been interested in cd sales over the past few years. Sales have dropped drastically but I think it’ll take awhile for them to become displaced.
